NIEEE unbundled to exert impact on nation’s economy, president

The president of Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (NIEEE), Felix O. Olu (FNIEEE) has said the professional body has been restructured and repositioned to play a vital role in the nation’s economy.
Engineer Olu disclosed this yesterday while inaugurating the kogi’s Lokoja chapter of the Institute, headed by Engr. (Dr) Umar Abubakar Saleh and Engr. Usman Abdulrahman as chairman and secretary respectively.
He stated that the Electrical Electronic Engineering (EEE) profession has become the fastest moving professional body in the world , stressing that every other profession depends on what it produced to be able do their own work .
He said the institute noted the challenge before the professional body and decided to unbundled it into six sections in order to professionalise and bring out their innovation better to solve problems to avoid jack of all trades syndrome.
“In this way, we have created jobs; we have created more opportunities for young people ; we have created services for people to be able to identify expertise or professional that can proffer solutions”, he said.
According to the president of NIEEE , the unbundling of the profession into sections is expected to improve, “the Professional development, professional welfare, nation building and advocacy research and solution provision.
“The major issues in the country is in power, telecoms, industrial poverty, security, transport, energy and food production, among others
“These areas require advance technologies which are globally driven by Electrical/Electronic Engineering”.
In his remarks, the new chairman of NIEEE , Umar A. Saleh thanked the national president of the body for the opportunity, stressing that the new and first executive council will strive to build on the foundation of their vision, dedication, and hard work.
He stressed that the newly constituted executive will promote professional development, capacity building among electrical,
electronics, computer, instrumentation, avionics, control, and robotics and
allied engineers.
“We will foster innovation, research, and entrepreneurship in the field, We will enhance public awareness of electrical, electronics, computer,
instrumentation, avionics, control, robotics and allied engineering’s role in
national development.
“We will provide a platform for networking, collaboration, and knowledge
sharing”, he said .
The vice chancellor of the Federal university Lokoja, Professor Olayemi D. Akinwumi who was represented by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Professor Abejide O. Samuel promised to collaborate with the professional body to exercise influence in the nation’s economy.
“The challenges of
infrastructure, technological advancement, and industrial growth in Nigeria present opportunities
for the institute to make lasting contributions. The Lokoja Chapter should now play its part in addressing these challenges”, he said ,
At the occasion, Dr Yakubu Baba Usman , Rector Federal Polytechnic,Idah spoke on “Artificial Intelligent(IA)…”, while Engineer Yisah Yakubu Adajah , Act MD , PEEMAD, Okene delivered speech on “Engineering Innovations…”
The highlight of the occasion was the swearing in of Engineer Umar A. Saleh and other exco members by president of NIEEE , Engineer Felix O. Olu (FNIEEE)
