The spate of oil facility vandalism in the Niger delta with allied criminal resurgence go to validate the old saying “injustice to one is injustice to all” the flipside which is also apposite is: “the indulgence of one is indulgence of all”.
The whole concept of granting amnesty to criminals masquerading as militants is antithetical to the development of an egalitarian society.
Amnesty programme just like the opaque management of oil subsidy and other state sponsored creation of emergency billionaires can only worsen reckless brigandage across the land.
It would not be surprising to soon find Boko Haram insurgents demanding for amnesty because of the monstrous concentration of resources meant for communal reparations in the hands of a few merchants of violence.
The state indulgence of Tompolo and his gang by the PDP-led federal government without a corresponding attention to the host community in Niger Delta is one of the reprehensible legacies of the last administration.
President Buhari cannot continue on this ruinous path of concatenating a nebulous peace that is not sustainable. The PDP was able to pacify the criminal elements by rerouting huge resources meant for the host community to animate a fiefdom of the leviathan.
Niger Delta avengers credited with the malevolence of setting the country back twenty years in oil production benchmark may be targeting another round of amnesty but they make an egregious mistake with this administration which is not only too stipendiary by choice but also imbued with no choice other than go after all criminal enterprises assailing national security.
