 Members of the Niger Delta Youths Association staged a rally at the Unity Fountain, Abuja in support of President Muhammadu Buhari who has been on medical vacation in the United Kingdom.

The youths during the rally walked to the Presidential Villa carrying placards with “Niger Delta in Total Support for President Buhari,” Ogoni youth supports Buhari,” “Sickness is not a sin,” and “PDP stop anti-Buhari protests.”

The convener of the group, former chairman Egbema Gbaramatu Communities Development Foundation, Michael Johny said they were out because President Buhari is the father to every Nigerians “and what is expected of us is to pray for his quick recovery and not to be protesting against him.”

He said the people of the Niger Delta region believed in the government of President Buhari adding that they have seen all the work done by this administration in the region.

Johny said they have seen protests going on for the  President to either resume or resign but the youth of Niger Delta deem it fit to tell the people that the anti-Buhari protesters are supporters of the opposition party who are instigated to frustrate and destroy this government and they did not mean well for this country.

“Our interest as Niger Delta youth is the unity and peace of this country. We also believe that we have a very transparent government headed by President Buhari like no other government in the past and we believe in him and we are throwing our confidence and support behind him.

“Whether you are from the North, South-south or any other part of the country, we believe we are all one Nigeria and believe in Nigeria unity,” he said.

He condemned the attacked on the #ResumeorResign that took place in Wuse market on Tuesday adding their group is not in support of any violence.

A member of the group, Young Pedro said though people always identify the Niger Delta people with violence because of the struggles they have been through, he said the fact is, “our diversity is our strength and we need to come together in unity and make Nigerian work because we are Nigerian and we don’t belong to the other country.”

He said the peaceful protest becomes necessary for them to come out and enlighten the Nigerian youth and the citizenry in general that any government that comes into power is ordained by God.

“But people must realize that the President did not just travel out for relaxation but for medical treatment and he duly transferred power to his deputy who is doing well in channeling the affair of the nation. We must understand that it is our duty to pray for his recovery so that he can come and resume work and not us going around protesting for his return or resign.”

He added that it is wrong for anyone to speak evil of him or wish him death because he is not the maker of whatever has happen to his health, “it can happen to anybody. Anybody can fall sick any day and anybody can die any day. He is the number one citizen of the country and we must be patriotic enough to put him in our prayers so that he can be fine and return to lead us well.”
