Niger State government says it has trained and deployed over 12, 000 health workers to execute its latest measles vaccination campaign.

Addressing journalists on the level of preparedness of the state for its measles vaccination campaign targeting over one million of children under the age of five yesterday in Minna, the commissioner of health, Malam Mustapha Jibril said the state government has moblised personnel and resources across 16 local government areas, which were captured in the first phase of the programme.

He said personnel and resource would be moblised to the remaining 9 local government areas in the second phase of the programme, which is expected to commence from February 15 to 20.

The commissioner said that the state has been proactive in meeting its counterpart obligation, saying that instead of N33 million captured as part of its contribution, the state government released N40, while UNICEF supported the exercise with N74 million.

Malam Jibril noted that because of the sustained public awareness campaign by the ministry, the state has witnessed downslide in the outbreak of preventable diseases, adding that only 10 cases of measles was recorded last year, even as he promised that the tempo would be sustained towards a zero-level cases in the state.

He averred that the ministry is collaborating with its education counterpart to ensuring that every citizen and resident imbibed the habit of regular sanitation in the on-going effort to rid the state of diseases.
