Niger State government is to construct two blocks of hostels at the state-owned polytechnic in Zungeru at the cost of N200 million.
The Rector of the polytechnic, Malam Ahmed Umar said at the weekend that the proposed female and male hostels have capacity for 200 rooms each.
He said approval for the project has already been given by Governor Abubakar Sani Bello.
He said works on the classrooms project would commence soon, even as he promised that the state government in conjunction with the institution’s management would ensure that the construction work was done according to contract specification.
The rector, who said student accommodation was one of the challenges the institution had to endure, hoped the proposed project would reduce the tension students go through.
Malam Umar commended the state government for many interventions aimed at making the school environment conducive for teaching and learning.
