President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sent his condolences to the government and people of Niger State over the petrol tanker explosion on the Bida-Agaie-Lapai- road on Sunday, which claimed the lives of 48 people and livestock.

The president, in a statement on Monday by Bayo Onanuga, his Special Adviser on  Information and Strategy, directed relevant federal agencies in transportation and road infrastructure to redouble their efforts and work with state governments to enhance the safety and security of travellers and residents.

President Tinubu, who commiserated with the families of the dead and injured victims, also sympathised with the owners of shops affected by the tragedy.

He prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured and pledged continued support for efforts aimed at providing relief to those affected.

The president commended the federal and state emergency agencies for their swift response and the good-spirited Nigerians who mobilised to the incident scene to assist the victims.

Meanwhile, Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed has called on stakeholders to join his agency in cautioning their subjects to avoid night trips and discontinue over reliance on unsafe means of transportation.

His reaction was contained in a statement signed by Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, after the tanker crash, which occurred in Niger State.

He said the crash, which occurred as a result of speed violation led to loss of control and ended up in an inferno that happened on Sunday.

He said the incident involved a total of 55 male adults, including 18 passengers who were rescued with varying degrees of injuries and 37 persons who were killed.
