Communities in Niger State which released their lands to private developers for the second phase construction of housing estates in the state have received about N184 million as compensation.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Land and Housing, Barrister Mukhtar Nasale, who spoke during the exercise at Jibi village in Tafa Local Government Area of the state.
Barr Nasale explained that the state government entered into an agreement with private developers to provide affordable housing to the people in its bid to bridge the housing deficit facing the state.
He said, “The developers are expected to construct about 4,000 units of different types of houses which will be constructed in phases on about 326 hectares in which around 600 units in phase I are in different stages of development.”
Nasale, therefore, enjoined the people of the communities to be security-conscious and wary of new and strange faces in their domains because of the current security challenges facing the nation.
The leaders of the communities and benefitting farmers who spoke at the occasion appealed to the state government to ensure that the compensation was paid through a transparent way.
They said they voluntarily gave up their lands for the project.
The District Head of Zuma, who stood in for the Emir of Zazzau Suleja, Mallam Awwal Ibrahim, Alhaji Musa Abubakar Sadauki, thanked the government for fulfilling its promise to the people and assured of their continuous support to the development of the state.
