The Niger State Police have arrested two men, Muhammad Mohammed (40) and Mohammed Usman (35), both from Beji town in Bosso Local Government Area, in connection with a foiled assassination plot.
According to the police, the suspects were allegedly hired by a man identified only as Dogo, also from Beji town, to kill his ex-wife’s new husband.
The state’s police spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the arrests, stating that the suspected assassins were apprehended while on their way to carry out the killing.
A pistol was recovered from them, he said.
He added, “On August 23, 2025, at about 12:45 am, a police patrol team, along with members of the vigilante group stationed at the railway crossing in Beji, Maikunkele area of Bosso LGA, intercepted two individuals.
‘’A search of the suspects revealed a locally made pistol, a live cartridge, and a sum of N13,000. During interrogation, both men confessed that they were hired by Dogo to assassinate a person near the railway crossing. They were on their way to collect the N100,000 payment from Dogo when they were arrested.
‘’The suspects claimed Dogo had already given them N13,000 for transport, and they were supposed to collect the remaining N100,000 before carrying out the task. Preliminary investigations revealed that Dogo wanted to kill the man because he had married his ex-wife.’’
Abiodun added that the suspects were initially taken to the Maikunkele Division for preliminary investigation and have since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.
He said efforts are ongoing to apprehend Dogo, the man who allegedly hired them.
