Niger police nab 22 robbers, 5 kidnappers

The Niger State Police Command says it has arrested 22 suspected armed robbers and five kidnappers in different locations across the state within the last four weeks.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Austin Iwero Agbonlahor, disclosed this during an interactive session with journalists yesterday in Minna. He also revealed that six cattle rustlers were arrested and 415 cows recovered within the period under review.

He said seven vehicles most of which were stolen, were recovered from the bandits, while two AK 47 rifles, four live ammunitions and one locally made pistol, among others, used in various operations were recovered.

He said the command in collaboration with the Inspector General of Police’s tactical team were able to rout out kidnappers who hitherto made the Minna-Suleja highway impassable.

The CP stated that the command’s Anti Cattle Rustling Team was on 24 hours surveillance of areas considered dangerous spots and designated cattle routes.

He also said officers and men of the command and those of sister agencies were monitoring activities within the border with Zamfara because of the reported return of banditry activities.

He called for collaboration between journalists and the police and the general public to report any suspicious movement in their areas.
