Niger: Rep Mamudu secures APC ticket for 2027

Member representing Agaie/Lapai Federal Constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Judiciary, Hon. Abdullahi Mamudu has been declared winner of the All Progressives Congress direct primary election for Agaie/Lapai Federal Constituency of Niger state.
The Returning Officer for the APC primary election in Agaie/Lapai Federal Constituency, Muhammad Dzwafu, said that Mamudu won the contest with 17, 410 votes, while his closest challenger, Sadiq Mustapha polled 436 votes.
The lawmaker defeated six other aspirants to emerge victorious in all the 21 wards of the constituency.
The aspirants include Sadiq Mustapha, Muawiya Yusuf Muye, Umar Abubakar, Aminu Mohammed Baka, Umar Makun and Abdullahi Liman.

A statement signed by Abdullahi Musa Umar, on behalf of Mutawalle media quoted the lawmaker as saying, “The victory is an emphatic approval of the people, and a vote of confidence on my stewardship in the green chamber. But above all, we give glory to Allah for making us victorious.
“I specially extend my profound appreciation to His Excellency, the Farmer Governor of Niger State, for his leadership, and unwavering commitment to the peaceful process and fair conduct of the exercise. I also express my gratitude to the Emirs of Agaie and Lapai Emirates for their leadership.
“We commend our party members and supporters for conducting themselves accordingly. We also commend our party leadership in the state and stakeholders for ensuring a competitive process.
“As the APC flag bearer for Agaie/Lapai Federal Constituency, I remain committed to the ideals of unity, development, and quality representation for all our people. I will continue to aggregate the collective aspirations of our people and harness them for effective representation. They have entrusted me to run for a third term. This means that they appreciate our efforts despite daunting challenges. I am grateful for that and I pledge to continue to represent Agaie/Lapai Federal Constituency effectively and efficiently at the National Assembly.”
“Together, we shall continue to work for the growth and progress of our constituency and Niger State at large. Let us all now come together for the greater goal of delivering our constituency for the APC in the general elections, come 2027, In Sha Allah.”
The road to the contest was full of intrigues. In the build-up, there were eight aspirants, two from Agaie LGA including the incumbent, and six from Lapai LGA respectively.
Initial consultations and horse-trading aimed at brokering a consensus was led by the Farmer–Governor, Umaru Mohammed Bago. He personally led a marathon consensus meeting where all six aspirants from Lapai insisted on direct primary election, while on the other hand, Alhaji Shuaibu Dare from Agaie endorsed and formally stepped down for the incumbent, paving the way for the incumbent to stand as the sole aspirant from Agaie LGA in the primary election that ensued after the stalemate in the consensus meeting.
Hon. Mamudu is serving his second term in the House.
As Chairman, House Committee on Judiciary, he is currently chairing his third committee of the 10th Assembly, having previously chaired the committees on HYPADEC and Hydrological Service and Army respectively between 2023 and 2024.
