Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff Alex Badeh has said the Nigerian Armed Forces and Boko Haram have agreed to an immediate ceasefire, the news Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
The army chief said he has directed filed officers to comply with the cease fire agreement.
Thirteen thousand people are estimated to have died in the Boko Haram violent campaign mostly in the North East of the country.
Two hundred and nineteen Chibok school girls are still being held by the insurgents after they were kidnaped from their school six months ago in Borno state.
Reuters reported that the agreement also include the release of the abducted girls.
“The Nigerian government has reached two agreements with the Boko Haram group. Firstly a cease-fire agreement and then the release of the abducted Chibok girls,” Reuters quoted a presidency source.
