Nigeria begin World Cup qualifiers against Namibia

In their last clash at full international level, Nigeria thrashed the Namibians 4-0 in a 2002 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in September 2000, before they won the return game 2-0 in June 2001.

Four-time World Cup finalists Nigeria are in Group F along with Namibia, Kenya and Malawi.

Namibia, who dismantled Djibouti in the previous round of the World Cup qualifiers, missed out on next year’s Africa Cup of Nations to Burkina Faso even though they are still in the boardroom as regards the ineligibility claims against one of the players paraded by Burkina Faso.

The Super Eagles have clashed severally with the Harambe Stars of Kenya in the qualifying series for the World Cup with the latest being in 2009, when they defeated the Kenyans 3-2 in Nairobi to book their ticket to South Africa 2010.

Nigeria’s last meeting with The Flames of Malawi was in a 2004 Nations Cup qualifier, which they won 4-1 after they won the first game 1-0 in Blantyre.

The overall winners of this group will then advance to the third round of the qualifiers for Brazil 2014.
