Ambassador Elijah Onyeagba, Nigeria’s envoy to Burundi, says the about to be established joint commission between both countries will build capacity.
He said this in a statement issued ahead of the upcoming inauguration of the Commission slated for the 28th and 29th of July, 2021.
“Highlights will be the Execution of the First Ever Bilateral Agreements between the two African countries. The bilateral agreements to be executed will focus on these key areas: Political Consultation, Educational Cooperation
and Technical Aid Corps.”
“Since both countries are signatories to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), the Ministries of Trade and Investments of both countries will be discussing the modalities to aid the implementation of the AfCFTA agreement.
“Other areas of focus will include Tourism, Mining, Manufacturing, Agriculture and the Oil & Gas sector.
“The bilateral relationship between Nigeria and Burundi will in the coming days bring smiles to citizens and business organisations in the both countries,” the statement read.
Onyeagba said the Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, Zubairu Dada, will lead the Nigeria Export and Promotion Council (NEPC), The Nigeria Investment and Promotion Council (NIPC), among other Nigerian Parastatals to Bujumbura, capital of Burundi, for the signing of documents for the Commission.
He reiterated the commitment of Nigeria to support Burundi in its efforts in strengthening democratic institutions, promoting good governance, improving security, counter corruption and terrorism.
