The agreements signed are; the revised trade agreement, cooperation agreement in the field of science and technology, protocol on the programme of implementation of cultural cooperation and exchanges, agreement on youth development.
According to the communiqué issued at the end of the 6th session of the joint commission between Nigeria annd Cameroon held in Yaounde Cameroon, the agreements were necessary in order to strengthen the ongoing cooperation between the two sisterly countries and reinforce the platform of the joint commission between the two countrie.
Nigerian delegation to the meeting was led by Dr. Nurudeen Muhammed, Minister of state 2 for foreign affairs while Cameroon delegation was led by Prof. Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo, Minister of external relations, Cameroon.
The leaders of the delegations agreed to create a committee of senior officials of both countries with specific mandate for the execution and monitoring of the signed and existing agreements as well as the other decisions of the joint commission.
They also noted the obsolescence of the 1963 agreement and disparities in its implementation. They therefore recognized the need to update same, prior to the meeting of the consular affairs committee in Abuja in July 2014 while both sides shall exchange their drafts through diplomatic channel at least two weeks prior to the meeting.
The two parties expressed the necessity for strengthening cooperation at regional and intternational fora for the promotion of peace, security, stabilityy, democracy and sustainable development.
