The ambassador of China to Nigeria, Ambassador Yu Dunhai, has predicted that Nigeria could reach greatness in the shortest time if it keeps implementing its reforms.

He said this when he hosted a delegation from the Media Trust Group, led by its Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), Ahmed Shekarau, at the Chinese Embassy in Abuja on Thursday.

While highlighting the similarities between his country and Nigeria, he said if China could turn around its fortune within the shortest time, Nigeria could do the same if it maintains consistency.

He recalled how China grew its economy from scratch through massive investment in the manufacturing industry, saying Nigeria could become one of the manufacturing hubs in the world in the shortest time frame if all reforms are sustained.

The ambassador said that because of its population, it won’t be easy to get stability at first, but noted that the country’s success would continue to multiply after that, just like China.

“For Nigeria, I think this is very important because a country with a 200 million population, you have to have your own manufacturing industry.

“When the People’s Republic of China was founded 76 years ago, we didn’t have our manufacturing industry. Our capacity for the world’s manufacturing is less than 1 percent.

“Then, by 2015, so that’s roughly 10 years ago, we became number one in the whole world. We take up 18 percent of the world’s total. This year, we reached 35 percent of the world’s total manufacturing, meaning that we take up one-third of the world’s total.

Ambassador Dunhai assured of his country’s readiness to continue to partner with Nigeria in its push for greatness.

While praising Media Trust Group for its rich and objective reportage, he expressed China’s willingness to work with the media outfit to project the correct narratives about the Nigeria-China relationship.

Speaking earlier, the Media Trust Group GCEO commended China’s contribution to development in Nigeria, pledging to continue to project the activities of the country in Nigeria objectively.
