‘Nigeria covered only 27% of TB treatment in 2021’

Health experts say tuberculosis treatment coverage in the country remains low with only 27 percent coverage recorded in 2021.
They stated this in Abuja Wednesday while announcing this year’s ‘Stop TB Partnership Nigeria National Tuberculosis’ conference slated for November.
Mayowa Joel, Executive Secretary, Stop TB Partnership Nigeria and Odume Bethrand, Chairman, Conference Central Planning Committee, noted that TB patients are usually more vulnerable to other infections.
They said funding constraints had remained key challenges in ending TB in Nigeria with financing largely driven by external funding sources over the years.
They said in 2020, the implementation of the National Strategic Plan for tuberculosis required $384, but only 30% was available to all implementers of TB control activities in Nigeria.
