Nigeria’s Rugby Sevens team, the Stallions, will lock horns with Africa and World  giants South Africa in one of the standout fixtures of the 2026 Rugby Africa Sevens Championship in Cascavelle, Mauritius.

Drawn alongside South Africa, hosts Mauritius and Zambia’s Nkwazi in Pool A, Nigeria face a daunting but exciting route to the knockout rounds.

The Stallions will be eager to prove their growing credentials against one of the most decorated and arguably the best sevens rugby nations in the world when the tournament gets underway on June 20 and 21.

For Nigeria, the clash against the Blitzboks offers more than just group-stage points. It is an opportunity to measure their progress against global rugby royalty and demonstrate that they belong among the continent’s elite.

Elsewhere, Pool B features Ghana’s Eagles, Tunisia, Madagascar and Senegal. Senegal stepped in as replacements for Uganda following the latter’s withdrawal amid concerns over an Ebola outbreak after reports emerged that some members of the Ugandan delegation had tested positive for the virus, although no players were affected.

Pool C promises its own fireworks, with Zimbabwe, Kenya, Morocco and Madagascar set to battle for supremacy in a group packed with quality and experience.

Nigeria arrive in Mauritius determined to improve on their seventh-place finish at the last edition.
