The poor performances of Nigeria in the last World Cup qualifiers has continued to haunt the Super Eagles as they have again slumped in the latest FIFA rankings released yesterday by the world football governing body.
Nigeria dropped from 38th to 39th on the world stage and 5th in Africa with a total point of 1498.93 they had in June.
Morocco emerged as the top-ranked African nation, climbing to the 14th position globally.
Senegal follows closely as the second-highest ranked African country, securing the 19th spot worldwide.

Egypt, Ivory Coast, and Nigeria complete the top five African nations, ranking 36th, 38th, and 39th respectively on the global scale.
Tunisia, Algeria, Cameroon, Mali, and South Africa round up the top 10 African nations in the FIFA rankings.
The biggest mover is Venezuela who climbed 17 places up to be ranked 17th globally while European champions, Spain, have the most points scored with +105.75.
Czechia had the biggest drop down to 13 places to be ranked 47th globally with Samoa having the most points lost at -44.09.
Meanwhile, having successfully defended their CONMEBOL Copa América crown, Argentina (1st) tightened their grip at the top of the pile.
France (2nd) are still their closest challengers, after reaching the semi-finals of UEFA EURO 2024.
Newly crowned European champions Spain (3rd, up 5) have yet more reason to celebrate after hauling themselves into the top three of the ranking, while beaten finalists England (4th, up 1) are just behind the leading pack, having leapfrogged Brazil (5th, down 1).
The next FIFA Men’s World Ranking will be published on 19 September 2024.
