Daily Trust gathered that the decision was based on increasing number of Nigerians claiming to have lost their passports, a development embassy sources described as worrisome and not in the best interest of the country’s image.
In a statement by the Ambassador, Alhaji Sheu Ringim, the mission said it will no longer replace lost or misplaced Nigeria e-passport urging Nigerians to “jealously guard their e- passports.”
The embassy, however, restated its readiness to assist those who lost their passport genuinely warning Nigerians to ensure that their status in Malaysia are always valid.
Analysts say changes in the electoral law, which mean the two main parties have representatives at the National Electoral Commission (CNE), should ensure the legislative and presidential count is more transparent.
The European Union is sending election observers, as is the US-based Carter Center, the Southern African Development Community (Sadc) and the African Union.
More than 10.7 million people are registered to vote in the country’s 11 provinces, as well as more than 89,500 Mozambicans in the diaspora.
