Nigeria gets IT ecosystem framework

The framework provides an overarching guide for all stakeholders in the sector for the sustainable use of Information Technology products and services across the government, private and non government organizations, according to NITDA.
Speaking in Abuja last week while receiving the IT ecosystem framework from seven-member committee which drafted it, the NITDA’s Director General Peter Olu Jack said the IT ecosystem is about making IT contribute more to the national income than before.
It is also about developing national capacity towards finding innovative ways of applying existing technology and planning for new technology and the ones still in development phase, Mr Jack said.
“Our critical infrastructure shall remain vulnerable as the world increasingly gets connected unless we are able to ensure that we are better than the rest of world in managing our peculiarities through reliance on Information Technology”.
He said it would provide coverage for research and design initiatives that are locally driven thereby opening up more employment opportunities for young Nigerians.
Shedding more light on the importance of the IT ecosystem, a member of framework drafting committee, Hajia Jummai Umar-Ajijola, said the system would afford Nigeria the opportunity to catch up with the advanced economies.
