President of the Quantity Surveyors Registration Board of Nigeria (QSRBN) made this disclosure at the 2014 induction ceremony of newly registered quantity surveyors and practicing firms and the third annual professional clinic on planning and estimating for process engineering projects held in Abuja.
 Dikko said that the feat is commendable considering what it takes in terms of time, skill, knowledge and resources to become a registered quantity surveyor.
He congratulated all the inductees for attaining the professional status, urging them to use their certification as a stepping stone to a blossoming and prosperous career in which ethics, competence and integrity will be their watchword and guiding principles.
Dikko reminded the surveyors that the investigating panel entrusted  with the investigations of allegations of misconducts against registered quantity surveyors will not hesitate to penalize any member that a prima facie case is established against, adding that the board also has power to prosecute non-registered  surveyors who offer professional services to either public or private sector clients which includes professionals from within and outside the construction industry who engage in such unprofessional manners.
He noted that the theme of the 2014 Professional Clinic was carefully chosen to widen the scope for participants on the emerging issues relating to engineering projects.
“Thus, the thematic focus for today`s lecture is “Planning and Estimating for Process Engineering Projects”. Given the vast nature of the quantity surveying professional and its similarity with disciplines like cost engineering and project management, this theme seeks to discuss how quantity surveyors leverage on their potentials and skills in planning and estimating for process engineering projects,” he said.
In her address, Minister for Lands, Housing and Urban Development Mrs. Akon   Eyankenyi described QSRBN as a strategic partner in the promotion and development of our housing sector.
She said, “Government has noted with satisfaction the achievements of the current governing board of QSRBN  in the areas of accreditation of Quantity Surveying Programmes in the universities and polytechnics, regular registration and induction of eligible quantity surveyors, publication of annual reports and accounts of the Board`s stewardship and regular mandatory continuing professional development  (MCPD) programmes.”
