Nigeria has the largest known deposit of barite in Africa, the Chairman of Association of Barite Miners and Processors of Bentonite in Nigeria Prince Stephen Alao has said.

Alao was speaking when he led members of the association on a courtesy visit to the Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Arch. Olamilekan Adegbite in Abuja.

He also said the quality of Barite in Nigeria has been proven to be the best because international agencies have ascertained to that.

But, the Minister while responding said the ministry needed empirical proof of the barite deposits as claimed by the association.
