The insensate narrative across the media spectrum now is to forget Jonathan and hold Buhari accountable to alchemy of performance never contemplated in Nigeria’s governance history.
You are lucky if such narratives do not pop up on your daily encounter with Nigerian Newspapers. It’s like the greater proportion of Nigerians press have not recovered from the electoral trumping of the last regime.
One of the resonances of the bewildered voice of Jacob is the intransigent fixation of NLC on the ongoing strike action. The PDP and the fourth estate of the realm so enamored to its politics cannot feign ignorance of the fundamentals behind government’s decision on subsidy.
Buhari’s only crime it seems is that he won an election on a democratic rescript against the wish of a financially fluid cabal whose war chest is facilitated by the very regime of subsidy in contention.
The hand of Esau also intercepted the voice of Jacob in the last budget conundrum with the alchemists demanding presidential accent as it were, suddenly Buhari became incompetent, a liar and a millennial mistake foisted on the nation by a group of hypnotised Nigerian masses.
Buhari’s decision to delay accent and wade through one of the highest decibels in opposition’s vitriol arsenals has repositioned Nigeria’s budgetary template forever. The benefit to the nation is unquantifiable.
A dispassionate question on the subsidy debate would be to ask the NLC and their protégés what Buhari and his party stands to gain from the removal of subsidy as to what they could gain by sustaining the status quo and making APC members beneficiaries of the subsidy regime. NLC was on muted activism when the last regime turned the subsidy into a family bazaar.
When are we going to be free from the voice of Jacob touching us with the hand of Esau by benchmarking a one year old administration which has recorded monuments of patriotic landmarks with sixteen years of rudderless peregrinations?
Nigeria cannot move forward with the hand of Jacob in a tangential contravention of the voice of Jacob. Those who lost election should go back to the drawing board and join hand with PMB to reinvent the wheel.
The opposition cannot make any headway until it can convince Nigerians that the wealth of the nation stolen with impunity on which corollaries the future remains uncertain does not matter as their opposition to a change interregnum embedded in Buhari.
