The Korean Cultural Centre in Nigeria in conjunction with the FCT Secondary Education Board has kicked off its 2nd annual Korean Scholarship Quiz for students in and around the capital

The event, following on the heels of last year’s quiz, kicked off last week with some 20 secondary schools participating, ten more than last year.

Winners of the competition will be given a full scholarship to undertake university education in the Republic of Korea.

Addressing newsmen in Abuja, the new director of the Centre, Mr. Kwon Yong-Ik said the competition is aimed at “fostering cooperation in the area of education between [the] two countries by assisting Nigerian students in public schools participate in the Korean Government Scholarship programme.”

Winners of last year’s competition, GSS Nyanya and GSS Abaji will be sending some of the participating students with the required grades for pre-qualification exams into Korean universities. The successful students will have to undergo a year-long pre-degree language course in Korea before starting university education in the Asian country.

Mr. Yakubu Ibrahim, the Desk Officer, Bilateral Relations of the FCT Universal Basic Education Board lauded the Korean centre for this initiative on cultural exchange between Nigerian and Korea. He also commended the students who have participated in the previous edition.

He said the lapses noticed from the last edition will be ironed out so that the competition this year will be keen and the most deserving school wins.
