The nominees were selected over a three- month by an academy made up of African music enthusiasts and fans. Nigeria has the most nominees with 31, followed by South Africa with 22, Kenya with 18, DR Congo with 15, Uganda with 14, Tanzania with 13 and Mozambique with 10. There are 28 categories in all with 7 nominees for each. The nominees come from all over Africa and with varied styles.

Voting takes place on http://awards.museke.com until May 15th, 2010 with winners being announced on June 1st, 2010.

Bumper to Bumper by Wande Coal and Yori Yori by Bracket are contenders for African song of the year along with musicians from other countries.

Darey and Wande Coal are nominated for artiste of the year award as well as best male artiste along with fellow African artistes.

P-Square and Bracket are two of the contenders for the place of best group.

Wande Coal’s Mushin 2 Mohits is up for best Album amongst six other nominees.

Put it down by Sasha and P/Dama do Bling  are in for best collaboration award.

Of the seven contenders for Best New Artiste/Group are M.I. for Safe, as Darey’s Not the girl and Clarence Peters are listed for Best Video with Don Jazzy nominated for Best Beat maker.

We are Africans by JJC is nominated for Record of the year while Wande Coal’s Bumper to Bumper, Yori Yori by Bracket and Suddenly by D’Banj are listed for West Africa song of the year.

May7ven is nominated for Best Artist based in Diaspora and Africans by Nneka for best Reggae. In the Music by Omawumi Best Afro‐pop song and Free Madness by Terry G and Shayo by Bigiano for Best Dancehall song and Omo 2 Sexy ‐ Justine Best Dance song.
