The joint commission, which drew inspiration from the agreement on economic, scientific and technical cooperation, would be used to further strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries, representatives of the two countries said.
Speaking yesterday during the opening of the meeting in Abuja, Nigeria’s Minister of State 2 for Foreign Affairs Dr. Nurudeen Muhammed said the commission is a mechanism meant to consolidate the existence of the relationship between Nigeria and Liberia.
Muhammed reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to democracy, security, human rights and development, adding that there is need to increase the trade between the two countries for the betterment of the people.
The minister expressed hope that the joint commission meeting would be a basis for laying a solid foundation for more robust bilateral relations between the two countries for mutual benefits of the people.   
Also speaking, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Liberia Mr. Augustine K. Ngafuan, who recalled Nigeria’s sacrifice and contribution to the restoration of peace into Liberia, expressed appreciation to the Nigeria government for the donation of $500, 000 for to fight Ebola virus.
He condemned the activities of Boko Haram sect in Nigeria, saying terrorism anywhere affects the whole world.
