In a paper titled: “The veterinarian in National Development,” at the just concluded Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA) 51st Annual Congress in Kaduna State, he pointed out that insecurity was affecting cattle markets in North-east, calling for urgent action to tackle the problem before the country runs out of meats.
He appealed to federal government to create an avenue for younger veterinarian to excel in the profession, describing the profession as the best in the world.
“For the profession to progress, we need to create avenue for our younger veterinarians to be appointed as directors of livestock in our various ministries so as to bring in fresh ideas to the development of the profession in the country,” he said.
In his remarks, Chairman of SURE-P, Martin Luther Agwai, represented by Justice Makere, cautioned the veterinarians to ensure that the association remained united.
He advised the association to develop a value chain approach to its curriculum for graduates to ensure high and international accepted standard including best global practices, poverty reduction, food security leading to national security, ability to earn foreign exchange and employment generation for Nigerian’s teeming unemployed youth and women.
He said NVMA in the next 50 years would revolutionise Nigerian rural community in line with the goals and targets of government.
