Nigeria on Wednesday marked the inaugural Nigeria Reputation Day, an initiative dedicated to promoting integrity, national pride, and behavioural reorientation among citizens and institutions.

The event, themed “Better Nigeria, Better Reputation,” was commemorated with a statement issued by the Nigeria Reputation Management Group (NRMG), a private sector-led initiative of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).

NRMG Chairman, Yomi Badejo-Okusanya explained that the day offers Nigerians an opportunity for “reflection and renewal” and to recognise one of the country’s most important national assets — its name.

“The image of our country is shaped not by slogans or policies alone, but by the conduct, integrity, and values of each Nigerian,” Badejo-Okusanya said.

“Our reputation is not merely perception; it is power. It determines how the world receives us, how investors trust our markets, how our youth are treated abroad, and how proudly our children identify with their homeland,” he added.

To guide this effort, the NRMG identified five pillars for building and sustaining national reputation — Consistency, Transparency, Responsibility, Respect, and Excellence.

The group urged Nigerians at home and abroad to take up the #BetterNigeriaBetterReputation challenge by committing to one act of integrity daily and inspiring others to do the same.

The statement also introduced “The M-Factor” — Nigeria’s cultural power grid, comprising five engines of soft power: Music, Movies, Media, Minds, and Fashion.

“These five dimensions are the pulse of the Nigerian story — vibrant, expressive, and deeply human,” NRMG said, adding that when culture aligns with integrity, “Nigeria becomes unstoppable.”
