While many nations are developing existing facilities Nigerians are busy arguing whether to establish a new national carrier or not. It is not something much of a pride for country like Nigeria not to have its own national airline, when less endowed countries are even depending on their airlines as a major source of national income. Much as we desire to have a national carrier however, it would be safer not to have it if it would be handled like other national assets. Having a poorly maintained airline would only be a death trap for its users, so if the government is not prepared to keep to standard, better stay off it.

Youths and dangers of smoking

Tobacco is dangerous to the health of both young and old people who smoke for long. Many boys and girls now smoke cigarettes or tobacco.  Prevention and cessation of tobacco smoking is important because smoking is dangerous to health and can be hard to give up. The Federal Ministry of Health should encourage parents to talk to their kids about reasons to avoid tobacco use, and protect their children from second hand smoke exposure and also produce more brochures to help parents and teachers to keep children safe from the dangers of smoking.

Please stop blocking roads over Shiites

Any time there is a protest by Shiites the military authorities would quickly rush to block the roads into the FCT, thereby preventing road users from quickly reaching their destinations. Despite this the protests still take place amid serious damages, even to human lives. The military and police authorities should devise other means of checking those protests instead of wasting people’s valuable time each time the Shiites embark on protests. Constant blocking of roads is affecting workers and other road users while not preventing the protests.

Are we all ears on security?

I am tempted to ask if at all the federal government led by President Muhammadu Buhari is at all listening to the numerous complaints about prevailing insecurity in the country and is actually doing anything to check it. From Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina to Kogi, Ondo, Abia, everywhere in the country people are crying of insecurity as evidenced by killings, robberies, banditry and kidnappings, etc. Is the president actually aware of these things, and is he really reading these or listening? Just asking.
