‘Nigeria needs logistics policy to compete globally’

The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN), Mr. Igwe Kingsley Onyekachi says the country is in dire need of a national logistics policy to make significant progress in the sector and compete globally.
He stated this over the weekend in Abuja at a press conference, adding that for too long, domestic freight forwarding and logistics companies have suffered from the hands of multinationals, which is why it is rallying stakeholders to make the business more competitive.
“We need a national logistics policy that will give us direction. This industry in Nigeria doesn’t have it while other countries have which is why the logistics sector has not emerged in the level it should.
“The world is coming together and digitized with the advent of blockchain, ICT and e-commerce which has evolved. However the practice of logistics services is still manual. This is why we have commenced a digitisation process and a national policy will complement our efforts for the sector to compete globally,” he said.
He added that the digitsation training for freight logistics has commenced for unskilled service providers through CRFFN woth training of 300 freight forwarders on air cargo logistics, adding that a committee has been set up to ensure it is being actualised.
Also in his remarks while presenting an award to the minister of marine and blue economy, The Managing Director of Zenith Carex International Limited, Dr. Adelana Olamilekan noted that the ministry had rolled out initiatives that will create a conducive business environment for logistics and freight forwarding to thrive and create employment for youths.
