Nigeria needs nuclear technology to boost its power supply to meet the demand of the manufacturing industries and residents across the country, the minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, has said.
Dr Onu said this yesterday when the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Mr Yikaya Amano, paid him a working visit in his office in Abuja.
“Our population is increasing by the day and we need alternative source of energy from peaceful atomic source to boost our energy needs”, the minister told Amano.
He asked for the assistance of IAEA in developing a peaceful atomic energy for Nigeria to meet its increasing energy demand.
Earlier, the visiting IAEA DG said part of his visit to Nigeria was to see how IAEA would help with its atomic energy pursuit.
He pledged the support of the agency to the attainment of the peaceful atomic needs of Nigeria.
