Jibunoh in a chat with Daily Trust noted: “We are not doing enough; we still have a long way to go. In fact, the flood we had last year in some parts of the low line areas of the country was a wake up call and my worry is that  when people see things that are going on in other places like the mud slide, Tsunami, tornados, Hurricanes and earthquake they say thank God, it’s not Nigeria, but people forget that this whole thing is the eye of the storm. If you watch the early warning system, you will see the way the storm is going, now is in the pacific tomorrow it could be in the Atlantic and when it get to us, my goodness, it will be disastrous.”
He said that the country lacked efficient early warning system that would alert in times of trouble as installed in other countries.
“Can you imagine a situation in Nigeria where a storm is coming and people need to be moved from Warri or Lagos or Asaba, where will you take them to? That is if you have an early warning system because we don’t have at the moment and they will stay there, they will all perish and millions will die as a result,” he added.
He urged government to begin concrete programmes that would cushion the impact of climate change on Nigerians.
