Civil society organisations (CSOs) have enjoined Nigeria and other countries in Africa to ensure accountability in the mobilisation of domestic resources for health security.

They made the call in Abuja during the Africa regional advocacy summit for non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and the media.  The theme of the summit was ‘Capacity building, peer learning and exchange on accountability for domestic resource mobilisation for health security and systems in Africa.’

The participants were drawn from Sierra Leone, Cameroon, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Senegal, Uganda and Zimbabwe.

Chairman, National Advocates for Health (NA4H), Mohammed Usman, said it is a collective responsibility to ensure that budgetary allocations for health security are judiciously used for the purpose they are meant for.

Coordinator of the Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN), Dr Aminu Magashi Garba said there was a need to reduce inefficiency and wasteful spending of the current budget of some African countries.
