Nigeria Players Union plan congress ahead of 2024/25 league season

The Players Board of the Nigeria Players Union, the National Association of Nigeria Professional Footballers, NANPF, is set to hold its Congress on August 1, 2024 before the commencement of the 2024/2025 football season.

The Congress is composed by all the Club Captains in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), Nigeria National League (NNL) Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) and the Union states administrative[oo1]  secretaries and Directors.

According to  a statement signed by the union’s Executive Secretary, Comrade Austin Popo, the Congress will amongst other  business of the day  ratify the statutes of the union as, amended in ensuring that the current players are placed in the heart of the union activities and decisions making process  in tune with global best practices in ensuring the Union take its proper place in the scheme of things within the football ecosystem in Nigeria.

The Congress will also discuss the process and modalities of the implementation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between the players as represented by their Union and their Employers, Organisers and regulators of their trade.

The Congress will also provide the unique opportunity for some of the Union potential Pension Fund Administrators and the NHIS to interact and engage the players on potential areas of partnership and collaboration on the establishment of the proposed Players contributory pension scheme and Health insurance scheme.
