This was made known by  one of the Directors of Azure Consult, a communications research institute and human capital development outfit, Mr. Ben Ojatomi, at a press conference recently in Lagos ahead of a two-day conference and exhibition on sustainable food security and award ceremony slated for December 11 and 12.
Mr. Ojatomi said the federal government should put in place a framework to attract investment in the area of agro preservation and storage equipment in the country, stressing that the government must realise that part of ways of creating enabling environment for agriculture to thrive is the availability of adequate and modern storage facilities for agricultural produce.
 “It could be recalled that since the mid 70s, Nigeria has been grappling with low agricultural production with over 40 percent of post–harvest loss leading to an unprecedented hike in food importation.
Most worrisome is the importation of such foodstuff that is far below acceptable global standards as in the case of rice that has been stored for about 15 years among others,” he said.
