Nigeria’s Super Eagles have maintained their position as the 26th-best national team in the world in the latest FIFA Men’s World Ranking released on Thursday, despite suffering a slight drop in ranking points following their recent international friendly matches.

The three-time African champions remain 26th globally with 1,585.02 points, although they lost 1.67 points during the ranking period.

The ranking reflects Nigeria’s mixed results in the June international window, including a 2-1 defeat to Portugal and a 2-2 draw against Poland.

While Nigeria retained its global position, the Super Eagles remain among Africa’s leading football nations, trailing continental leaders Morocco, who climbed to a historic seventh place in the world rankings. Morocco’s rise marks the highest-ever FIFA ranking achieved by an African nation.

Other African teams ahead of Nigeria include Senegal, ranked 15th globally, as well as Algeria, Egypt and Côte d’Ivoire, all of whom remain within the world’s top 35.

At the summit of world football, Argentina retained the number one position with 1,877.27 points, followed closely by Spain and France in second and third places respectively. England and Portugal complete the top five.

Despite remaining outside the world’s top 20, maintaining 26th position provides some stability for the Super Eagles after a period of fluctuating performances.

The next FIFA Men’s World Ranking update is scheduled for July 20, 2026.
