Nigeria has pledged to support the efforts of the Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC) in the areas of education, science and technology.
Minister of Education and Leader of Nigerian Delegation, Malam Adamu Adamu, made the pledge at the 13th Summit of the OIC in Turkey.
The minister also pledged to put in place measures to develop intra-OIC trade, socio-economic infrastructures, the micro-finance sector, agriculture and health.
He said violent extremism and terrorism are threatening world peace and the prosperity of Islamic countries.
“Nigeria believes that the challenge of violent extremism and terrorism is the most serious threat to peace, unity, security and prosperity of the Islamic World: and it undermines, embarrasses and compromises the very essence of Islam. Everywhere, one form of battle or the other is goıng on.”
He said the situation in some Islamic countries characterised by conflicts and crisis was a source of great concern as many member-states were embroiled in conflicts threatening their very existence and taking an unacceptable toll in human lives and the destruction of critical infrastructure.
He said Nigeria will support all measures taken to restore the rights and dignity of the people of Palestine, and ensure that they get their own state.
He called on the OIC to engage with the governments to address the plight of their Muslim minorities in Myammar, Philippines, Thailand and China.
