John David, the CEO of Data Addict and a US Army Veteran, has called on Nigeria to leverage its burgeoning tech ecosystem to create cybersecurity solutions tailored to local challenges.

In an exclusive interview, he outlined a strategic roadmap for addressing the nation’s unique cyber threats, including scams, phishing, and financial fraud.

“Nigeria has a vibrant tech community with immense potential. By investing in homegrown talent and encouraging innovation, we can develop cybersecurity tools that specifically address the country’s digital security needs,” John David stated.

He emphasized the role of local tech hubs and startups in creating custom security solutions. “These startups understand the local cyber landscape better than foreign providers. With the right funding, mentorship, and resources from government and private sector partnerships, they can build effective security tools,” he explained.

John David also highlighted the importance of education, urging universities and tech institutes to integrate cybersecurity training into their programs. “Equipping graduates with relevant skills will ensure a steady pipeline of cybersecurity experts who can innovate and respond to evolving threats,” he noted.

To stimulate creativity, he recommended organizing hackathons, innovation challenges, and cybersecurity incubators. Additionally, he called for stronger public-private collaboration for knowledge sharing and real-time threat intelligence.

“By prioritizing local cybersecurity firms in government and corporate security frameworks, Nigeria can reduce reliance on foreign products and build solutions tailored to its digital landscape,” John David concluded.
