Abubakar reiterated his faith that the country would soon overcome its present security challenges and would not disintegrate.

 

The elder statesman told journalists yesterday in Makurdi that the worry over the country breaking into pieces was unnecessary.

“Nigeria will not break up. All the noise making is unnecessary; breakage is not a ransom,” he expressed.

He said his views were based on the fact that the citizens of the country are bound in cross-cultural and religious integration to the extent that major tribes are found in all villages around the nation.

“There is no village you pass through that you won’t find Hausa, Ibo or Yoruba men living there,” he said.

To this end, the former Head of State, who was conferred with an honorary degree at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, urged Nigerians to join hands to build the country for the betterment of all.

“We must learn to know the things that can unite us in order to build on them. Everyone of us should put effort to ensure security amongst us.

“Every thing takes time and we will surely get over this security issues,” he said.

He stressed that disintegration would not provide the much needed peace being sought, just as he cited example with Sudan’s break up which has yielded no peace.
