The company’s Deputy General Manager, Mr. Chidi Okonkwo, spoke in Lagos during the prizes presentation to the winners of Tecno 2013 App Developer Challenge where N2million was given out to empower software developers.
According to Okonkwo, apart from supporting local developers, the ceremony was also part of the company’s  Social Responsibility (CSR).
He stressed that Tecno was not in Africa to provide the best mobile phone devices but also to serve the people and help in discovering talents in Nigeria youths, offer supports local developers to improving the skills.
Okonkwo said: “Nigeria will soon be rubbing shoulders with the rest of the world in software developing as a result of her various programmes in creating world class applications that will meet the real needs of phone users”.
He also disclosed that Tecno is in partnership with Co-Creation Hub so as to further encourage and support indigenous local software developers.
The Tecno MD added: “Tecno’s goal is to join and collaborate with other ICT companies and discover more local talents in software developing. We want to help in transforming lives of millions of Nigerians especially the youths through this kind of initiative and we also plan to have a wider software developing training support for talents in Nigeria.”
Tecno’s General Manager, Mr. Jack Guo also stated that the company thinks globally but acts locally with the intent to drive not only the phone market and the software development.
Meanwhile, the Director CChub, Adetunji Eleso said the Tecno challenge was unique on its own because for the first time, end users determine who wins the coveted prize of N1m, which is an innovation from Tecno.
He hinted that the entire process was transparent that encourages local content development in the country.
The platinum (First prize) winner of the Tecno 2013 Apps challenge winner is Kunle Fadiora, who developed the Akpos jokes apps. Co-Founder of Pledge 51 Zubair Abubakar came second with the Nigerian constitution app and carted away N500,000 with a Tecno android phone, and Muyide Ibukun came third with his lyric manager apps and also smiled home withN250,000 and a phone.
Others who were on the Bronze lists  took away android mobile phones were Sunday Akinsete, developed cinema app, Akinwale Ariwodola,Movie time,  Hugo Obi, Mosquito smasher, and Michael Sahlu,who created Whatup Africa.
