An Air force team led by Air Commodore C.J Ozoemena , Staff Officer of the Directorate of Museums and Archives, of the Nigerian Air Force Headquarters, Abuja which visited the NCMM, on behalf of the Chief of Air Staff, appreciated NCMM for the opportunity granted them to articulate their interest of collaborating with the commission in its effort to set up its own museum and archives.
He said the Nigerian Air Force which was established in 1964 and entrusted with the responsibility of protecting the territorial integrity of the country, over the years has many of relics to be preserved and maintained like uniforms, change of guards, civil war relics and also to ensure the protection of those historical and cultural materials, hence the Directorate of Museums and Archives was establish-ed.
According to the Air Force emissary, they came to the Commission to solicit ideas and resources to help build the Nigerian Air Force Museum that will be the pride and envy of every Nigerian and to harness the professionalism NCMM is renowned for before seeking foreign assistance.
The Air force team was received by the NCMM Director-General, Mallam Yusuf Abdallahi Usman at the Museums headquarters in Abuja.
He commended their (Air force) proactive decision to look inward before going overseas, especially when NCMM has the professional knowledge to assist the force establish a Museum/Archive that will be the envy and pride of Nigerians.
In the same vein, the DG said the effort is a welcome development and urged the Air Force to set up a Committee for this purpose, so that Museum professionals could be involved to assist with capacity building.
He informed the visitors of such specialized Museums like war Museum, Umuahia, Currency Museum of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and yet to be established Tax museum of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), as products of collaboration between the NCMM and various organizations.
