Mr Christopher Nyong, from Cross River State, has been appointed to the International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board by the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) with headquarters in New York, the United States of America.
This makes him the first Nigerian and the third African to be appointed, after a South African and a Kenyan, to this prestigious Board.
He is to serve for three years at the first instance and may be re-appointed for subsequent terms
In a letter signed by the Chief Executive officer of IFAC, Fayez Choudhury, dated September 20, Mr. Nyong was appreciated for his "support of the independent standard-setting boards.”
IFAC is the global organization for the accountancy profession dedicated to serving the public interest by strengthening the profession and contributing to the development of strong international economies.
IFAC  comprises over 175 members and associates in more than 130 countries and jurisdictions, representing almost 3 million accountants in public practice, education, government service, industry, and commerce.
Mr. Nyong, a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) is a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, USA; a Chartered Public Finance Accountant of UK, a Fellow of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN, and had served on the Governing Council of the Institute from 2008 to 2011.
He served as the Chairman, Body of Federal and State Auditor Generals in Nigeria from 2007 to 2015.
Nyong, who is currently the Auditor General of Cross River State, is also a member of the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), Sub-committee on Implementation of International Public Sector Accounting Standards in Nigeria.
