The Nigerian Archery Team achieved a significant milestone by securing 16 medals at the recently concluded 11th International Archery Grand Prix and the 14th West and Central African Archery Zone Championship (TIZOCATA), at the Robert Champroux Stadium in Marcory, Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

The Nigerian contingent, consisting of 10 exceptional athletes—9 men and 1 woman—competed against over 70 archers from six West and Central African countries across several categories, including Compound Archery, Recurve Archery, and Barebow Archery.

Their tremendous dedication and hard work culminated in a remarkable haul of 16 medals: 10 Gold, 2 Silver, and 4 Bronze.

Elated, one of the players, Emmanuel Oyeleke commended players’ commitment, attributing the success to passion and hard work.

“Our athletes have shown incredible skill and determination throughout this tournament.

“Their achievements are a testament to their hard work, discipline, and passion for archery, and we could not be prouder of their performance on the international stage.”

He added that the team’s success underscores the country’s ability to compete at an elite level, saying this achievement also strengthens Nigeria’s aspirations for future global competitions, including the Olympic Games.

“Our vision is to see Nigerian archers on the Olympic stage.

“This success is only the beginning, and we hope to generate more support and visibility for the sport as we move forward,” he added.

Archery Nigeria believes that this remarkable accomplishment will help to raise awareness of archery in Nigeria further and encourage the next generation of archers.

The team hopes their story, will inspire aspiring athletes and secure greater backing for the continued development of archery in Nigeria and across West Africa.
