Security analyst Mu’azu Muhammad Adam has commended the Nigerian Army for what he described as the sacrifices, resilience and operational victories recorded against terrorism and other criminal activities across the country.
Mu’azu said despite growing public criticism and negative narratives surrounding insecurity in Nigeria, troops of the Nigerian Army had continued to make significant gains in various theatres of operation while risking their lives under difficult conditions.
He noted that soldiers deployed in conflict areas across the North-East, North-West, North-Central, South-East and South-South regions deserved support and appreciation from Nigerians for their commitment to national security.
According to him, under the leadership of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu, the Nigerian Army has intensified operations against terrorists, bandits, kidnappers and other criminal groups with visible results.
He cited recent operations conducted under Operation Hadin Kai as evidence of the military’s renewed operational strength against insurgents in the North-East.
Adam recalled that on May 8, 2026, troops of Operation HADIN KAI repelled a coordinated attack by suspected ISWAP fighters on the Headquarters of 27 Brigade in Buni Gari, Yobe State.
He said the attackers, who reportedly launched the assault from multiple directions under the cover of darkness, were resisted by troops who engaged them with what he described as “tactical discipline and superior firepower.”
According to him, no fewer than 50 terrorists were neutralised during the encounter while several weapons and ammunition were recovered from the insurgents.
“The troops successfully defended the location and prevented any breach despite the scale of the attack,” he said.
He added that the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI also carried out air interdictions against fleeing insurgents, leading to additional casualties among the terrorists.
Adam further said troops of the operation on May 9 and 10 thwarted another attempted attack by suspected ISWAP fighters on the 120 Task Force Battalion in Gonori under Sector 2.
He explained that the terrorists advancing from the Mandunari axis were detected early, leading to what he described as a devastating ambush and coordinated offensive by troops.
He said several weapons, including General Purpose Machine Guns, PKTs, AK-47 rifles and assorted ammunition, were recovered after the operation.
Adam said such operations reflected the commitment of troops towards combating terrorism and restoring peace in affected communities.
He, however, noted that many successful military operations often received little public attention compared to negative reports and unverified narratives circulating on social media.
According to him, while constructive criticism remains important in a democratic society, deliberate attempts to demoralise security personnel through fake news and propaganda could undermine national security efforts.
He urged Nigerians to support security agencies and acknowledge the sacrifices of troops confronting insurgency and other security challenges across the country.
“The courage displayed by troops during the Buni Gari and Gonori operations once again proves that the Nigerian Army remains determined and committed to defeating terrorism and restoring lasting peace,” he said.
