Last week in London, Nigerian artists and the thriving art community in Nigeria are gaining significant attention. Five galleries based in Nigeria are taking part in the 11th edition of the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair at Somerset House. Among the fortunate galleries to present their work are kó gallery, Wunika Mukan gallery, Affinity gallery, SMO Contemporary Art gallery, and Retro Africa gallery.
The kó gallery featured a solo exhibition of artworks by the late Nigerian artist Ben Enwonwu, while Affinity Gallery displayed the creations of two Nigerian artists, namely, the painter Damilola Onosowobo and the ceramicist Anne Adams, with prices ranging from £6,500 to £8,500. SMO contemporary gallery showcased three artists from different generations, among them Victor Sonoiki, who introduced a new collection titled “When Love Is Right” in 2023, priced between £4,600 and £4,800.
