Oluwapelumi Adejumo, a Nigerian engineer and doctoral researcher at Missouri University of Science and Technology, has gained international attention for pioneering the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into metal additive manufacturing.

This was disclosed in a statement personally signed by him.

The statement noted that Adejumo graduated as the top engineering student from Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) with an unprecedented CGPA of 4.92/5.00.

It noted that Adejumo’s record unmatched in the faculty’s ten-year history, earning four undergraduate scholarships and a fully funded PhD scholarship in the United States.

The statement reads: “In his first year of doctoral study, Adejumo developed innovative methods that combine computational modeling with machine learning to enhance the reliability, precision, and scalability of 3D-printed metal components. In July 2025, he received a prestigious National Science Foundation (NSF) grant, enabling him to present his research on predicting melt pool dimensions in laser powder bed fusion at the 36th Annual International Solid Freeform Fabrication Symposium in Austin, Texas.

“His work addresses long-standing challenges in achieving consistent quality in additive manufacturing and lays the foundation for adaptive, AI-driven production systems.

“With intelligent control systems, we can move toward smart, adaptive, and sustainable production methods,” Adejumo said.

“My goal is to fuse deep learning with advanced computational mechanics to create manufacturing processes that learn and improve in real time,” he added.

Adejumo is now recognized as a rising figure in intelligent manufacturing research, highlighting both the potential of AI-driven industry and the academic excellence nurtured in Nigeria.
