Nigerian firm partners Benin Republic to launch ePass

Seamfix, a Nigerian digital identity and biometric solutions provider, has partnered with the Government of the Republic of Benin to launch ePass, a self-service digital passport renewal platform designed for Beninese citizens living in the diaspora.
Powered by Seamfix’s government digital identity and service delivery platform, GovSmart, the ePass application allows eligible citizens to apply for and renew their international passports entirely online, without the need to visit embassies or consular offices. The platform was launched globally in October and is currently accessible in more than 80 countries.
Through a secure mobile application, users can complete the entire passport renewal process from their location.
This includes capturing biometric data with built-in liveness checks, uploading required documents, making online payments, tracking application status in real time, and choosing passport delivery via courier or embassy pickup once approved.
The solution was developed in collaboration with Benin’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Direction de l’Émigration et l’Immigration (DEI Benin) and is now fully operational, with increasing adoption among Beninese communities abroad.

Speaking on the launch, Seamfix Group CEO, Chimezie Emewulu, said the initiative removes long-standing barriers faced by citizens abroad.

He noted that ePass eliminates the need for long-distance travel, time away from work or school, and extended embassy visits, while ensuring secure and trusted access to essential government services.

Designed specifically for diaspora populations, ePass supports the remote renewal of both adult and minor passports, secure document submission, online payments, and end-to-end application tracking. Once approved, passports are produced by the relevant government authority and delivered directly to applicants.

The ePass platform is integrated with Benin’s national identity and immigration systems through GovSmart, enabling real-time identity verification and strong data protection in line with internationally recognized information security and privacy standards.

According to Seamfix Chief Operating Officer, Frank Atube, the deployment serves as a model for other governments seeking to modernize passport and identity services for citizens living abroad.

He explained that GovSmart provides a scalable and secure foundation that allows governments to digitize critical services while maintaining regulatory control and readiness for future expansion.

Seamfix said it plans to continue working with governments across Africa and beyond to deliver digital identity solutions that improve access to public services for citizens at home and abroad.
