Reacting to speculation that Nigerian graduates are unemployable, Professor Okogie said products of Nigerian universities are employable and have excelled in top universities across the globe.
Speaking at the commission’s end of year luncheon for reporters, he said a recent study conducted by NUC in the construction industry shows that graduates from Nigerian universities are doing well in the labour markets.
He added that when Nigerian graduates travel abroad for post graduate studies, they always perform better than their counterparts from other parts of the world.
He said the Presidential Special Scholarship for Innovation and Development (PRESSID) for which 200 candidates were recently selected will in due course change the country’s university system for the better when the beneficiaries of the programme return to Nigeria with their PhDs certificates.
He said since the federal government has fulfilled its promise to give the universities N200 billion, there is need for all universities to respect the sanctity of the academic calendar in order to restore public confidence in the system.
He added that the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission is helping the commission deal with those involved in illegal universities and unaccredited courses.
