Nigerian makes CWA Daggers awards shortlist

Nigerian crime writer, Leye Adenle, has made the Crime Writers’ Association Dagger awards shortlist for his short story, ‘The Assassination’. Also on the list of six are ‘Murder and its Motives’ by Martin Edwards, ‘The Super Recogniser of Vik’ by Michael Ridpath, ‘What You Were Fighting For’ by James Sallis, and ‘Snakeskin’ by Ovidia Yu.

The Crime Writers’ Association announced the shortlists for this year’s Dagger awards for crime writing at an evening reception held at Waterstones Piccadilly.

Adenle’s story is described as “an interesting twist on the ‘corrupt politician’ narrative, 

Adenle cleverly paints a picture of a man with many deserved enemies, all fighting to be the one to take him down, with an almost witty twist to the tale.”

CWA Daggers are awarded every year in 10 categories. These include the CWA Short Story Dagger, the category for which Adenle won, The CWA Gold Dagger, The Ian Fleming Steel Dagger, The John Creasey (New Blood) Dagger, The Gold Dagger for Non-Fiction, The CWA Endeavour Historical Dagger, and the CWA International Dagger.

The shortlists are sponsored by Hazchem Network Ltd, the UK’s only palletised distribution network for Dangerous Goods, and by CrimeFest, the international crime writing convention, which will be held between May 17 and 20 in Bristol in 2018.

Winners in all the CWA Daggers will be announced at the glittering Dagger Awards Gala Dinner to be held at the Grange City Hotel, London on October 26. 

Adenle is author of a crime novel titled ‘Easy Motion Tourist.’
