The grants, according to the US Charge d’Affaires, Mrs. Maria E. Brewer, represents her country’s continued commitment to investing in Nigerian people and complement the work the NGOs do in their various communities.
“The Ambassador’s Small Grants Programme receives support from the Special Self-Help Programme through the Department of State and from the U.S President’s Emergency plan for AISS Relief (PEPFAR).
She said, through the grants, the United States tries to respond to requests for small, community-based development projects to improve the living conditions of people within their home towns and villages.
Brewer said several of the self-help projects will assist Nigerian children to access education and acquire new skills with construction of classrooms and classroom furniture, the purchase of library books and installation of sporting facilities.
The Charge d’Affaires also announced that the PEPFAR provides funding assistance to communities with projects that provide care and support to orphans, vulnerable children and their households.
Youth enhancement organisation got the highest sum of $9, 816 for the construction of health clinic with borehole for OVC and maternity care in Abia State while Blissful Life for Youth Society of Nigeria got $3, 282 for the construction of borehole for vulnerable households in Lagos State.
